When Spencer originally produced an 1860 model carbine it was different from any other firearm because it was accurate fired rapidly had a long effective range and held seven metallic cartridges so they weren't affected by moisture.
It could be fired more rapidly than a Colt-style revolver and reloaded in one-tenth the time.
In 1865 the gunmaker deliverd the 1865 Spencer Carbine which was modified to correct flaws inherent in the 1860 design.
